When this happens, the copy machine will no longer allow users to make copies. The indicator light will, at some point, begin to blink. This should give users plenty of time to order a new one, so it is not completely necessary to keep a spare drum unit on hand. An indicator light will turn on when the machine’s drum counter reaches about 17,000 copies, meaning that the drum can still be used about a thousand more times. After about 18,000 printed copies, the drum unit for this copy machine is no longer useful.
